How it works
DomainHunter.si asks the registry of each name one question over RDAP and shows you the answer as it came back, with the time of the check and a link to the source. It does not guess.
What each state means
| State | In plain words | How it is decided |
|---|---|---|
| Registered | The registry has a record for this name. Somebody holds it. | The registry answered with a record for exactly the name that was asked. |
| Quarantine | The name is still registered but scheduled for deletion. The holder can usually still restore it. | The record carries a pending-delete or redemption status. |
| Not found at the registry | The registry has no record of this name at the moment of the check. This is not a promise that you can register it: names can be reserved, blocked or taken a second later. A registrar has the final word. | The registry's RDAP service answered “not found” (HTTP 404). |
| Rate limited | The registry asked us to slow down. The name is tried again later. | HTTP 429 from the registry. |
| Access denied | The registry refused to answer this question. | HTTP 401 or 403 from the registry. |
| Network error | No usable answer arrived, so nothing can be said about the name yet. | A timeout, a connection or certificate failure, a registry server error, or an answer that is not a domain record. |
| Unsupported ending | No public RDAP service is known for this ending, so the name cannot be checked here. | The ending has no entry in the IANA list of RDAP services. |
| Invalid | Not a name the checker accepts. | Letters, digits and hyphens only; one label and one ending, such as example.si; no hyphen at either end of the label; 63 characters at most. |
| Queued | Not looked up yet. The page keeps asking until the answer arrives or you press Stop. | The time budget of one request or your lookup allowance was used up. |
Details
- Active
- Registered, with name servers set.
- Parked
- Registered, with no name servers.
- On hold
- Registered, and the registry or the registrar has put the name on hold.
- Expired
- In quarantine because the registration ran out. For .si the latest release date is the expiry date plus 30 days.
- Returned
- In quarantine because the name was given back or deleted. For .si the latest release date is the date of the last change plus 30 days.
A release date is the latest date, not an appointment: the holder can restore a name before then, and the registry does not publish the hour of release. Release dates are shown for .si names only.
Sources
- Register.si — RDAP, the registry's own lookup service for .si names.
- Register.si — domain statuses, including the 30-day quarantine.
- .com and .net are asked at the Verisign registry RDAP service; other endings at the service listed for them in the IANA RDAP bootstrap file.
Every result row links to the exact registry address that was asked, so you can repeat the question yourself.
Limits
- Pace. At most one request per second goes to each registry, for all visitors together. Large lists therefore take a while; names that are waiting show as Queued.
- Stored answers. An answer is reused for a short time instead of asking again: 24 hours for Registered, 2 hours for Quarantine, 30 minutes for Not found, 5 minutes for errors and 7 days for unsupported endings. The Checked column always shows when the registry was really asked.
- Allowance. Each visitor gets 150 fresh lookups per hour and 600 per day. Stored answers do not count. When the allowance is used up, the remaining names wait.
- List size. Up to 200 names per paste.
- Endings. .si, .com, .net, .org, .ai, .io, .co, .app, .dev and .eu. Names with special characters (IDN) and names with more than one dot are not accepted yet.
- Radar. The drop radar follows a fixed watch list of .si names, not the whole registry. Names in quarantine are checked again about every 3 hours, names close to expiry about every 12 hours.
What this site does not do
- No purchase. Nothing is sold or registered here. The “Check at a registrar” link only opens a registrar's search page.
- No appraisal. The site says nothing about what a name is worth.
- No legal clearance. A name that is not found at the registry can still conflict with a trademark or another right.
- No accounts, no cookies, no trackers. Your address is never stored in clear; a salted hash is kept for at most 48 hours to count the lookup allowance. Registry answers are stored for reuse, but never together with who asked.
